Casey Meets Caroline

Casey is too old to be rolling out something new for the 2016 season. After all, I turn 128 on June 3. But when the majors called this year, I was ready. Seems like they want me to get in front of that crowd again just like I did during the 1888 season in Mudville. Ten thousand eyes were on him while he wiped his hands with dirt. Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt. And while responding to the cheers he lightly doffed his cap. No stranger in the crowd could doubt. T'was Casey at the Bat! It seemed like it was yesterday. But it had been over 120 years. CNN and Fox news wanted me to throw out the first ball of the coming baseball season which was only a week away. And then it happened. The call from the show. The call every rookie yearned for and every creaking veteran despised. "Casey, we need you up here in the Show. Can you make it for Opening Day?" Can I make it? I had been waiting for this call for over a century. Still, one thing was confusing. They wanted me to meet someone names Caroline. Sweet Caroline they called her. To be continued as we approach Opening Day and the evolving saga of Casey at the Bat!
