RIP Jim Brady

Goodbye James Brady
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled

A shooter and a coward just the same
And he shot you in your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And he sent you on to fame

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a man who had something to say
You were damaged by a gun
But you were not going to let that get in the way

And I would have liked to have known you
But I was not the lucky one
Your cause for gun control will live on
And it's all because of you

Speaking out--when you could hardly speak
The toughest role you ever played
Washington created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid

Even when you died
Oh, the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that James Brady- gun advocate had died today

Goodbye James Brady
From the man who believed along with you
Who sees you as something as more than a political cartoon
More than just a gun control ally

You have sparked a national debate
Whatever side people are on
You made them start talking
And that has made all the difference.
