Notes To Game 4: Will it Be the Final Game of the Year?

The Detroit Tigers had so much fun beating the New York Yankees in the ALCS that it appears they left their “A” game against the Bombers and have gone flat as a team against the Giants. Players like Cabrera, Young and Fielder have been helpless in a punch-less Detroit batting order which is setting futility records which date back to 1919. Can the Tigers make it all the way back to still win the series? Only one team in the history of baseball has come back from being down three games to nothing. That would be the Boston Red Sox who were on their way to breaking their 86 year old curse when they reeled off four straight wins against New York in the 2004 ALCS. The Red Sox completed their magical run with a World Series win. Could history repeat itself? Kevin Millar, one of those champion Red Sox, believes it can. Millar, mow an MLB anchor, was shown being interviewed just before game 4 with the Red Sox in a 0-3 hole. He reminded the scribe that of course they need to win the first one. He conceded they needed to win tonight. However, he said after winning tonight, the picture would begin to change. They would be coming back with their best pitcher in game five. Game 6 might be a struggle and then anything can happen in game seven. Millar compared his 2004 Red Sox to the 2012 Detroit Tigers. It could happen all over again. The Tigers must win tonight and with Scherzer on the hill, they have the right pitcher at the right time. If they win tonight, they go back to Verlander for game 5 at home and that can easily turn into a win. If they win game 6, the series suddenly is tied and anything can happen in game 7. Can it happen one more time in baseball history? It was Yogi Berra who said it was like déjà vu happening all over again. It gives Tigers fans hope. First, they need some runs.
