The first time a student is exposed to my vocabulary formula, the reaction can be negative.
Who wants to learn something that seems so far from what they are comfortable with?
And that is exactly the point.
The fact is that I have shown my students over the years that my method of creating pictures and images in one's mind is an incomparable way to learn new words and forever freeze them into permanent memory.
Today, let's consider the word MEANDERING.
The first step is to look up the word and become familiar with the definition as you would with any new word to your vocabulary.
It is at this point that my formula takes on its unique form.
me·an·der (m-ndr)
intr.v. me·an·dered, me·an·der·ing, me·an·ders
1. To follow a winding and turning course: Streams tend to meander through level land.
2. To move aimlessly and idly without fixed direction: vagabonds meandering through life. See Synonyms at wander.
n.
1. meanders Circuitous windings or sinuosities, as of a stream or path.
2. A circuitous journey or excursion; ramble. Often used in the plural.
3. An ornamental pattern of winding or intertwining lines, used in art and architecture
Create a picture in your mind to match the definition of the word.
Some suggestions.
A picture of a snake
The classic picture of Lombard Street in San Francisco which is known as America's most crooked street
Keep in mind these are only suggestions.
My formula works when you think of your pictures and images and lock them away in your vocabulary treasury.
The beauty of the formula is not only that I guarantee you will never forget the thousands of new words that you add, such as MEANDERING to your extraordinary vocabulary, but just the thought of one picture will inspire more words and more pictures to create a chain effect.
Therefore a word like MEANDERING can produce a picture of Lombard Street or a snake or the picture you select in your mind and words like CIRCUITOUS AND SERPENTINE will fall directly in place aligned with the same picture.
Exponentially, your vocabulary grows at the fastest pace of any learning method ever introduced.
And its fun.
Try it.
Once you begin creating pictures and images to learn new words, you will forget the old methods you were taught to embrace new words and your vocabulary will take on new heights.
Imagine the possibilities.
