Secrets of Great Speaking

I am a network marketer and I am asked to give a talk 2-3 times a week. I think my talks are great, but there is something missing. People don't sign up. Can you help?
Most speakers like to start out with a little joke. Somewhere in the bible of great speaking, there is an opening passage about starting your talk out with some levity. That is nonsense. Are you a stand-up comedian or do you have a message to convey. In response to thousands of network marketers from hundreds of network marketing companies over the years, here is my list of what will make your speech a winner each time and get people to immediately follow your passion.
1. Tell a story
2. Don’t use notes
3. Don’t use charts
4. Speak from the heart
5. Engage your audience
6. Conclude with a challenge
7. Give your audience a starting point

Tell a story.
I had a network marketer come to me who had an amazing story how she became a network marketer complete with laid off spouse and three hungry kids. Yet, she never told that story. Instead, she meandered endlessly about her network marketing company. She began to tell her unique story and she soon became a superstar.
Don’t Use Notes
If you don’t know your story to speak extemporaneously, don’t bother getting in the game.
Don’t Use Charts
Use them if you want to put your audience to sleep.
Speak from the heart.
If you can’t tell your personal story, who can?
Engage you audience.
Walk your talk and look your audience in the eye and involve them.
Conclude with a challenge.
To read your book or I will give you a deal on one of mine.
Give your audience a starting point
1st Base is meeting you and your book (or mine) at the back of the room and capturing their name.

I agree that a story is key. I find that I reach more people when I am without my notes- just tell what I know- my story.
