I will admit it.
I love watching women.
They don't need to play sports to qualify.
It's a love affair I have had my entire life.
But when women compete for championships, as the University of Washington women did last night, I love them more.
How else to explain a grown man watching on TV, breaking into tears of joy and compassion. as he watched the hero of the College Softball World Series in Oklahoma City, Danielle Lawrie, enjoy the greatest moment of her young life with her teammates.
At the same time, the agony of defeat, had turned Ali Gardener, Florida's last batter, to dissolve into tears, as she wondered what might have been.
On this night, Danielle would strike Ali out on a vicious rise ball.
In her most recent opportunity, Ali had hit a game winning grand slam homer, knocking Alabama out of the World Series.
Now, Ali was experiencing the same pain she had inflicted on the Crimson Tide.
In sports, the old adage was never more true than it was on this championship night.
ONE DAY A HERO.
NEXT DAY A GOAT!
So, my heart went out to Danielle who had hit and pitched her Huskies to their first ever Softball championship.
And my heart was broken, crying with Ali, as her teammates consoled her for her failure to do to Washington what she has so heroically done to Alabama.
I love sport!
I love championships.
It's life at its best, played out on a symmetrical diamond for the rest of the world to see.
These ladies put on a remarkable show this past week.
What a display.
Anyone ready for Women's basketball.
It's about to happen all over again.
