The philosophy you are reading in my blog and soon to be published in my MOVIES OF THE MIND book is a philosophy which connects with so many.

Will A RICH VOCABULARY ENRICH YOUR CHILD’S LIFE?


 

As a classroom teacher, I developed a learning formula.

It is known today as MOVIES OF THE MIND.

I believe that any child who applies this formula to their vocabulary building, memory techniques, writing, speaking and learning capacity, will become an extraordinary student.

It is my opinion that the development of a prodigious vocabulary will be the key for your child to unlock the mystery to learning.

Words are the building blocks of language.

To master writing, speaking and comprehension, a student needs to become special in the currency of words.

MOVIES OF THE MIND is the answer to vocabulary retention.

I first proved this fact to myself becoming an A student in college and graduate school.

Then I began to develop my MOVIES theory in my very first teaching assignment in the hardscrabble neighborhood of the South Bronx.

In South Florida, MOVIES OF THE MIND VOCABULARY became one of the most popular courses ever offered at a Coral Gables private school.

As my CPA practice dedicated to entrepreneurs, MOVIES OF THE MIND expanded its scope to helping others succeed in business and sports, as well as the classroom.

Teaching young people a formula to build massive word power continues to be a passion of mine.

Words have the power to change lives.

I have been teaching the secret of champions to athletes for the past decade.

CPA CLAIMS TO HAVE LIFE CHANGING FORMULA!

When I claim that I am the CPA who has created a formula to change the world, I imagine there are many who believe my message is steeped in hyperbole, not fact.

How does an educated person, trained by numbers, profess to have created a life changing formula?

Shouldn't my province be balance sheets and not life's delicate balance?

I will state my case by referring to three people I know of who believe I have created a life changing formula.

My students now number in the thousands, but I don't communicate with them daily, as I do with this trio.

Before I identify these references, let me share with you how certain I am that MOVIES is a life changing formula and how it will impact your life and those lives you come into daily contact with.

Mother’s Day 2007

The Phone Won't Ring, but Mom will Hear

Every Sunday morning at 9 o'clock for 35 years, my mom and I had a date via telephone. Wherever I was, I called at 9AM. If I missed 9AM on the dot, Mom would call me at 9:05. "What happened?" She would ask. "Is everything OK?"

"Mom, its five minutes past the hour. I was going to call you. Couldn't you have waited until 9:10?"

She never did. She never even bought an answering machine or figured out what voice mail was all about ("Steve, if you can hear me, pick up. This is your Mom)."

Yes, she was my Mom. And I loved her.

I told her that on February 17 of this year. For some reason, I didn't call her "Mom." I called her "mommy."

I hadn't probably called her "mommy" since the day I stepped out of the bath when I was small and she spent too much time wiping my ears and drying my hair, while the rest of my body was turning blue.

"Stop with the ears, Mommy. I'm freezing." Mommy kept drying her way.

But maybe the last time I called her "mommy" was when she had whipped up a bowl of blueberries and cream or packed a bologna sandwich in my Davy Crockett lunch box. Mommy was patience and sweetness and love, wrapped tightly in a tiny package.

Mom died the day after that last February call. This is my first Mother's Day without her Sunday phone pal. I was lucky enough to see her live to 87 and say goodbye to her one final time.

I didn't want this Mother's Day to pass without Mom knowing that I still had a few more words to say. Why am I so certain that my mom will know that I wrote one final tribute in her memory?

Have I written that my Mom is the most exceptional Mom I will ever know?

Goodbye, Mommy. I love you.

Will Your Child Smoke?

It is doubtful that most parents consider this question when they are on the highest of highs, celebrating the birth of their baby.

Maybe they should.

In the news these days is the often repeated question whether the depiction of smoking by the motion picture film industry is directly related to smoking in society.

Will your child try smoking because they see their favorite actor smoking on the silver screen?

Yes.

No.

Maybe.

How can we be certain?

The answer is we can't.

If we are going to legislate to the film industry what they can and can't show in theatres, why not stop there?

Every group with a cause can rally for an objectionable image not being shown on celluloid.

I am still wondering how the beer and liquor industry merrily waltzes its way through our television screens and smoking has been cut off from this and other mediums for years.

Has anyone ever heard of the killer DUI problem we have in America?

Where is the outrage on that subject?

But, I digress.

The subject is how as a parent you might influence your child to promise to never smoke in their lifetime.

Set an Example at home.

How can a parent influence a child not to smoke, while they continue to smoke?

Educate your child.

As soon as they are able to understand, begin teaching your child the enormous health risks one takes when they choose to smoke.

Promote your Child's Self Esteem

As a child grows in their inner trust, they grow more confident about their decisions in life. Refusing to smoke or surrender to any addictive type of behavior is one of the greatest challenges one will encounter in life.

When your child can clearly see their brilliant future and the unlimited possibilities life has to offer, they will never picture smoking in their lifetime.

What they see on a motion picture screen is hardly the point.

What they see in their own mind is everything.

The parent who sees the difference is the enlightened one.

The rest are still stumbling in the dark.

Visionary Entrepreneurs

Visionaries live life to the fullest.

Many entrepreneurs are visionaries, but not every entrepreneur is a visionary.

Why does being a visionary something that every entrepreneur should aspire?

It begins with my formula for the initial success need to drive the business.

Your customers need to find you.

No matter how amazing your product or service is, your business will not succeed unless you have established a very special connection with your customer.

So you begin with the marketing.

A flyer, a brochure and a business card seem to be common denominator marketing tools for all businesses.

Sound familiar so far?

In these flyers, brochures and business card, the non visionary entrepreneur fills in a great deal of space with words which are focused on attracting the customer to the business.

Entrepreneurs have shared with me these words and they all ring with the same theme.

They are boring.

Discounts, service and contact information are included.

There is nothing in this litany of words which excites the customer and drives them to your business.

Visionaries don't have that problem.

Visionary entrepreneurs know just how to make it very tempting for a new customer to try their business.

When I teach MOVIES to entrepreneurs, this is the MOVIE they want to see.

They believe if they can create the MOVIE in their mind which indicates to them how the customer will be attracted to their business, their business will soar.

And this is inimical to all visionary entrepreneurs. They have unlimited confidence in their product or service.

They have low levels of confidence in their ability to attract the customer.

The quality of their product or service will ultimately mean nothing, if the customer doesn't bother to call.

I teach MOVIES.

I teach the average entrepreneur to become the visionary entrepreneur.

They learn to see their business through their customer's eyes.

Are you an entrepreneur or a visionary entrepreneur?

Deja Vu

You walk into a room or scene in your life and it's as if you are suddenly gripped with an inescapable feeling.

You have been there before.

In your rational mind, you are certain that it is impossible for you to have ever encountered this setting, but still there is something, perhaps intangible, which stirs your core, which says the opposite.

You know you have experienced something here at one time in your life.

Perhaps it is the smell which is so very familiar. Perhaps, a sound, touch. taste or something which resonates with your eyes, which convinces you that you have lived this very scene at least once before in your lifetime.

What is happening here?

It's déjà vu.

That's the word the French have given to things "already seen."

It's what I teach.

It's what most of us do, even though some of us are limited to these experiences in life and never are motivated to search behind the surface of these seemingly unrelated events.

I teach others to search behind the surface.

The goal of an athlete is to play as if they have been there before.

Déjà vu.

A student who develops an inner confidence in the classroom has found a way to be inside the teacher's head.

Déjà vu.

An entrepreneur who always manages to stay ahead of their competition with innovative strategy seems to see things invisible to others.

Déjà vu.

One who has reached a perfect balance in life due to symmetry between body and mind is in sync because they have connected to the future.

Déjà vu.

If you could live your life today, knowing that whatever you decide to do is something which will become a stepping stone to your destiny of success, wouldn't you attack life with more passion than yesterday.

I think you would.

That's why I teach others about living for today and tomorrow.

It will become easier for them when they see how amazing today and tomorrow will become.
